  3.  maintain all these in the wilderness! They were all provided for
  4.  by God every day. When we observe the faithfulness of God,
  5.  however unlikely the performance of his promise may appear, we
  6.  may take courage as to those which yet remain to be fulfilled to
  7.  the church of God.

  10.  #47-54 Care is here taken to distinguish the tribe of Levi,
  11.  which, in the matter of the golden calf, had distinguished
  12.  itself. Singular services shall be recompensed by singular
  13.  honours. It was to the honour of the Levites, that to them was
  14.  committed the care of the tabernacle and its treasures, in their
  15.  camps and in their marches. It was for the honour of the holy
  16.  things that none should see them, or touch them, but those who
  17.  were called of God to the service. We all are unfit and unworthy
  18.  to have fellowship with God, till called by his grace into the
  19.  fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and so, being the
  20.  spiritual seed of that great High Priest, we are made priests to
  21.  our God. Great care must be taken to prevent sin, for preventing
  22.  sin is preventing wrath. Being a holy tribe, they were not
  23.  reckoned among other Israelites. They that minister about holy
  24.  things, should neither entangle themselves, nor be entangled, in
  25.  worldly affairs. And let every believer seek to do what the Lord
  26.  has commanded.

  28.  * The order of the tribes in their tents.

  30.  - The tribes were to encamp about the tabernacle, which was to
  31.  be in the midst of them. It was a token of God's gracious
  32.  presence. Yet they were to pitch their tents afar off, in
  33.  reverence to the sanctuary. The children of Israel put
  34.  themselves in their posts, without murmuring or disputing; and
  35.  as it was their safety, so it was their beauty. It is our duty
  36.  and interest to be contented with the place allotted to us, and
  37.  to endeavour to occupy it in a proper manner, without envying or
  38.  murmuring; without ambition or covetousness. Thus the gospel
  39.  church ought to be compact, according to the Scripture model,
  40.  every one knowing and keeping his place; and then all that wish
  41.  well to the church rejoice, beholding their order, #Col 2:5|.
